Chapter 24

Hello readers! The male lead is FINALLY here. Just from the fact that he only appeared again after 23 chapters, you should kinda understand the general gist of how the romance will be like. So, just to warn y’all, THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE FOCUSED NOVEL. It focuses more on the daily lives of the characters, metaphysics adventures and the main plot. If you are expecting a good relationship development, a somewhat reasonable or logical reason on how they fell in love or cute couple interactions (though they are some), you will be disappointed. Moreover, TBH, I feel (my personal opinion) that the male lead is a little on the flat side, like his character is honestly somewhat forgettable (hehe). Anyways, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Please do not rate the novel super lowly just because you did not heed this warning. Thank you! Now let’s get on with the chapter! Muaks!

Yunyu also recognized that it was a box made of locust wood. The locust wood had yin attributes, so it was best used to store all kinds of yin or evil things and corpses.

She looked at the locust wood box with the talisman, and heard Song Ziming’s trembling voice, “Little girl, let’s leave. The formation here is not something we can solve…” Before he finished speaking, he only saw that Yunyu was already sitting cross-legged. With a swish, she took out a few talismans and stuck them on the locust wood box, and a lot of spiritual energy spewed out, rushing towards the locust wood box.

Song Ziming could not see the spiritual energy, but he could feel some of it. He looked at Yunyu in shock. His brain was mush as he thought, ‘Why is her cultivation so high at such a young age?’

    Who was she?

Yunyu could not be bothered with these. She felt the evil energy rushing madly towards her and could only suppress it with her spiritual energy.

    Time gradually passed.

Song Ziming did not dare disturb her. He sat cross-legged beside Yunyu to help protect her. The yin and evil energy here was too heavy, he felt a little uncomfortable, but he would not let this little girl stay here alone. He could not do much to help her, only not disturb her as much as possible.

Sweat dripped from Yunyu’s forehead, sliding along her thick long eyelashes, and onto her fair cheeks.

Song Ziming was also getting more and more anxious. The most feared thing about breaking through formations was the lack of spiritual energy. If the seven formation eyes could not be destroyed, and the backlash she will encounter would be enough to kill her.

Fortunately, after another 10 minutes, the talisman stuck to the locust wood box exploded with a ‘peng’ and shattered into powder. The evil energy around also instantly dissipated a lot. Yunyu opened her eyes and retracted her spiritual energy. She looked at the box in the pit, then raised her head to look at Song Ziming.

Song Ziming did not understand at first, but after 2 or 3 seconds, he understood Yunyu’s meaning. He showed an expression of disbelief. In the end, seeing that her face was so pale that her lips did not even have a hint of red, he finally could not bear it. He gingerly picked up the locust wood box from the bottom of the bit. The stench coming from the box almost had him fainting.

Both of them were in the same line of business, so it was clear to them that the smell was from a corpse.

Naturally, the box would not be opened.

However, based on the size of the box, the inside probably contained a body part.

Song Ziming endured the nausea and watched Yunyu take out a bottle of mineral water from her backpack. She unscrewed the lid and took two sips, before throwing it back into the backpack. He licked his lower lip. He also wanted to drink water, but he forgot to bring it up the mountain with him.

Yun Yu said quietly, “This water can’t be given to you. There are still six formations to be broken, so I have to consume a lot of water.” The truth was, the bottle contained spiritual spring water. She naturally did not dare to give it to Song Ziming because the spiritual energy in it was too strong and she was afraid he would notice it.

Song Ziming said, “I know, I know.”

Feeling that the spiritual energy in her body was replenished, Yunyu took a jade tablet and bit her finger. Using her finger as a pen and blood as ink, she infused a little spiritual energy to draw the talisman.

It was done in one stroke, but it took a lot of effort.

The talisman was complete and it flashed a golden light.

    What the fuck…

Song Ziming’s voice that was about to rush from his throat was suppressed by him. It was the first time he had seen such a talisman. A one-stroke talisman! (T/N: Actual term used 灵光即是符 Língguāng jí shì fú – I had a hard time understanding this but from what I read, it refers to one of the two types of talisman. One is done in one stroke which is the innate talisman while the other is the acquired talisman. There’s a whole phrase here (一点灵光即是符,世人枉费墨和朱) which I’m still on the confused about so I did not include it in the translation)

When his master taught them to draw talismans, they had to follow a set of procedures which included lighting incense, chanting mantras and having a calm and quiet mind and body. And the most important thing was to have a sincere heart.

Even with all these, not all talismans drawn would be successful. As apprentices in their discipline, it was already not bad for them to succeed once or twice in every 10 tries.

Yunyu buried the Juling talisman (T/N: 聚灵符 Jù língfú – Spiritual energy gathering talisman) that was drawn with jade in the place where she took out the box just now.

The prosperous imperial capital thousands of miles away, there was a magnificent building in the center of the Imperial City. On the highest level of the building, there was a huge room with bright floor-to-ceiling windows. The room had a place for work and rest.

An old man sitting cross-legged in the room slowly opened his eyes and sneered, “Someone dares to break my formation.”

The young man sitting behind the desk got up and came towards the old man. He was tall and handsome, with slender eyes and long eyebrows. A strand of hair hung down on his forehead and he looked slightly feminine. He was wearing a custom made black suit. He walked towards the old man and leaned in slightly, “Master, do you want to send someone to take a look?”

The old man waved his hand and said, “No need. I don’t believe that there are seven practitioners who are comparable to me in this world who could break the Seven Demons Soul Destroying Formation. Only one of the formation’s eyes was destroyed, and the formation was forcibly broken. If they cannot destroy the remaining cores, they can only seek death. Besides, my fight with that old guy from Guiyuan Sect a few days ago has severely impacted my cultivation. So, it’s not easy for me to move around.”

The young man said softly, “Master, has Long Fengjun’s soul already scattered?”

The old man hummed, “It’s been more than half a month. That old woman’s soul naturally has already been refined till nothing is left.”

The young man said warmly, “That’s good. If the Long family finds any clues of this, the world would definitely turn upside down

 ———————————————————————————————————————

After dealing with the first eye of the array, she went directly to the Tianxuan array eye next. She dealt with it the same way, by using spiritual energy to forcefully break the formation eye and  taking out the wooden box. Then, she used jade as the carrier and blood as the ink to draw a talisman and bury it in the eye of array. After drinking some water, she continued on to the next one.

It takes at least 2 hours for her to deal with 1 eye of the formation.

The sky was soon getting dark. Yan Mingkun and Yang Fuguo, who were guarding outside the construction site, were getting paler and paler. They did not dare to go up the mountain to those two. Going in was purely looking for death and causing trouble, so they could only wait.

Yang Fuguo glanced at Yan Mingkun, wiped the sweat on his forehead and said sympathetically, “You have suffered.”

They had investigated the situation long ago. Yan Mingkun was an honest businessman and had never done evil deeds nor had he offended anyone. As for why someone chose to set an array at his construction site, it was still not known. It may simply be because he was unlucky, or because some people may not like him. But, Yang Fuguo felt that even if people really did not like Yan Mingkun, it was impossible for them to have the ability to make such a big move.

Yan Mingkun said with a wry smile, “It’s been alright.” Even if Master Yun could solve the problem of the construction site, and the subsequent villa area is built, whether anyone would be willing to buy them would be a problem. But, if the villas were not built, what about the subsequent amount he had invested. If the land was abandoned, he would suffer a lot of losses.

His was worrying so much that his hair was about to fall out.

Yang Fuguo was still sweating, “How are the two masters? It’s already dark. They would be alright, right?” If even a practitioner like Mr. Song could not solve it, he was worried that the matter this time may be quite serious.

Yan Mingkun looked at the construction site, gritted his teeth and said, “All we can do is wait.” It was impossible to ask the police for help for these kinds of things as it would only bring harm to others.

They could no longer leave the situation alone and had to report it to the above. Yang Guofu immediately called the city but the city leaders knew that they were powerless, so they could only continue to report to their superiors. After the people at the imperial capital received the report, they paid more attention to the matter and planned to send some people to the town to check it out. The person in charge of these matters in the imperial capital remembered that Song Ziming was the apprentice of Tan Lao (T/N: Old Tan) of the Guiyuan Sect, so he naturally had to let him know.

After hearing about the incident, Sect Leader Tan immediately called his youngest disciple and found that the signal was not working. Tan Lao was worried that  his youngest disciple had an accident, and immediately wanted to book a plane ticket to go over.

It was his eldest disciple, Li Zhou who stopped him, “Master, you were in a fight against that old monster. Your cultivation base is damaged. It is best to stay in the imperial capital to recover from your injuries. I will visit Ziming in person to take a look at his situation.

Tan Lao was about 60 or 70 years old. His hair was a little bit white, and his wrinkles were much less than his peers. His complexion was still ruddy, but his lips are a little blue.

He had no children in his life, and the 3 direct disciples under his name were all orphans he picked up.

Hearing the words of the eldest disciple, Li Zhou, Tan Lao did not insist, and instructed, “Bring 2 more magical weapons. Ziming’s heart is pure and a little impulsive, and the situation there is not clear. I am afraid that he will be brave and rush in directly.”

Li Zhou nodded, and Tan lao continued, “The special division said that there will be 2 people who will go along. You guys will meet at the airport later.”

Li Zhou knew that the people who followed were either from the special division or the special forces.

Ordinary people could get involved in this kind of thing.

———————————————————————————————————————-

The second floor of the villa area of Zhonghaiting Community in the Imperial Capital.

Qin Yusui came out of the bathroom naked. He had a buzz-cut, a tall stature, long arms and a thin waist (T/N: Meaning that he had a good looking figure), He had many old wounds on his chest and back, and there was also an unhealed gunshot wound on his chest. The drops of water fell on the floor as he picked up the trousers on the sofa and put them on. He went to the round table and picked up the envelope that was sealed. He tore it open to reveal the information inside. On the top was a photo of a girl in an ordinary T-shirt and jeans with a big smile.

He stared at the girl for two seconds, then looked at the name in the information column: Yunyu.

A senior student of the Imperial Media University. She lived in Qinghe Village which was in Hexian Town, Changshui City (T/N: Remember how the city works in Chapter 7 – Village < Town < City < Province).

Qin Yusui remembered what happened in the clubhouse more than a month ago.

That time, when he was returning from a mission, a friend called him to go to Downton Club for a drink. When he was there, his blood suddenly surged, and was about to lose control because of his attack. This situation had only happened to him in the recent years. The intervals of his attacks slowly became from 1 year to every half a year. When his mind cleared up after the attack, his surroundings would usually be in a mess, like a storm had whirled through. He once had an attack during a mission.   When he came over, the surroundings were usually like a storm. One of them was during a mission. All the enemies were seriously injured by him and died by him. His teammates stubbornly  tried to restrain him so there were several that were injured too.

After returning to China, he went to the hospital for a checkup, and found that there was nothing wrong with his body.

At Downton Club, he was afraid that he would lose control and hurt others, so he booked a room and went upstairs. As soon as he entered, a soft fragrant body was pushed in and fell on top of him.

The delicate body was hot like lava. She stood on the tip of her toes and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Because of his occupation, he had experienced a lot of training, including situations like this. Even if he was drugged, he could also remain unmoved, without any emotion.

He thought he could push the person away this time, but her body was so soft and smelled so good. It was not the smell of perfume, more like an ethereal and natural smell.

Her softness was against his, and her lips pressed against his.

The irritable and uncontrollable emotions in his heart seemed to be smoothed out, but other things seemed to be out of control. He pressed the person under him.

    A night full of tenderness.

The next day, he had a mission so he  had to leave. He left a phone number and his name to show his intention.

He also asked a friend to help him look up her information. After more than a month when he returned from his mission, he finally knew her name.

    Yunyu.

T/N: Hohoho! Our male lead, Qin Yusui, is finally here! Let the romance (what little of it) begin! At least now we know how they came to have a “tender night”. I know some of y’all be thinking that be rape and all but be pateint! It’ll be explained soon! So, look forward to the chapters to come!
