Leisure Life of Princess Yun Yu – Chapter 2 (Continued)

Chapter 2 (Continued)

Hi everyone! Hooligan here. This is a wonderful metaphysics book that I have stumbled upon and found enjoyable enough to want to share with everyone. The story has loads of quality cooking, farming and business management scene, one overall baddie pulling the strings behind most of the happenings, tons of ghost encounters for our Yunyu to show off her skills, faceslapping to those that do not believe/ shameless people and cute interactions between Yunyu and what’s-his-name. It is a shallow but pleasant read that borders on slice of life except for some occasional metaphysics job and when the plot is in play. It is a happy ending, but it is not the best (in my opinion it was a little lackluster and personally I enjoy it when the author gives an insight of what happens in the future). Overall, it is a good read so buckle up and enjoy!

PS: There are tons of metaphysics terms that I’m not quite familiar with but I have tried to incorporate links to sites that may give more insights. Some of it may be in Mandarin so you may need to Google Translate the webpage.

Happy Chinese New Year y’all! Sorry for the late update. I was busy with CNY prep and celebration! For those who are unaware, this is a continuation of the previous translator’s work (aka the Chapter 3 in NovelUpdates). They stopped half way through Chapter 2 of the raws and so I have picked it up from there. I can’t seem to upload this or the next chapter on NovelUpdates so just read it here! Do like/rate and comment (here and on NovelUpdates) if you enjoy this story!

When Song Jingjing left, Yunyu changed into lightweight sports clothes and went out. Zhu Jiajia was stunned when she saw her clothes, and did not say a word (T/N: Zhu Jiajia expected her to go for the interview but her clothes said otherwise).

It was still a little hot in May in the Imperial Capital. Yunyu was wearing tight clothes and was sweating a little. She stood in front of the main entrance of the university building and looked up at the majestic golden lacquer characters, Imperial Media University.

Her heart was full of mixed feelings and her mind was in a mess.

Yunyu did not go for the interview. She knew very well that she had not adapted to this world. Even though she had Yunyu’s memory, she herself did not know about things related to media, and thinking about these turns her brains to mush. Fortunately, the original body had already graduated. The thesis had also been completed and there was basically nothing for her to do. Otherwise, she was afraid that she would not even be able to get her diploma.

She did not want to go to the interview, and she was at a loss as she did not know what to do for a while. She did not even dare to go home.

The situation in the original Yunyu’s family was a bit complicated. She was the second child in the family. Above her, she had an older sister, Yun Lan, who was 24 years old, and her younger brother, Yun Sheng, who was only 17 and a sophomore in high school. The original Yunyu’s mother, Feng Xiuzhen, divorced her husband more than ten years ago as her husband, Yun Maoliang, cheated. When the family found out, the daughter that the mistress had given birth to was already 4 years old and there was another child on the way. She also came to force a marriage.

Feng Xiuzhen was also pregnant with Yun Sheng at that time. After the divorce, she was heartbroken and gave birth to Yun Sheng prematurely. Yun Sheng’s health was not very good and was a little thin when he was born. After Feng Xiuzhen gave birth to Yun Sheng, she suffered from post-partum depression. She was also hit by a car when she went out and broke her left leg making her disabled. In those few years where she could not pull herself together, it was Grandmother Yun who took care of the three children.

Grandma Yun was a very good old lady. Because her son cheated on and abandoned his wife, she cut off ties with her son and lived with her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.

It was only when Yun Sheng was older that Feng Xiuzhen managed to recover from her depression and pull herself together.

Yunyu’s eldest sister, Yun Lan, found a job after graduating from high school in order to support Yunyu and her younger brother studies.

As a top student nurtured by her family, if she dared to say that she did not want to find a job and instead will stay in her hometown to tell fortune-telling and see Feng Shui, she was afraid her family would find it difficult to accept it.

Did she dare to not look for a job?

Yunyu was standing at a crossroad, confused. She was the pampered Princess Fuyu (T/N: 福玉 Fú yù –  It means blessed jade. Yu means jade and is also her name so I believe that when her father conferred her the title he meant to bless her. This is her title as a princess. In ancient China, when a princess or prince came of a certain age or when a consort/ concubine was selected/ promoted, the emperor would bestow them a title. The title is not their name and is similar to the British nobility hierarchy e.g. the Duke of Sussex title given to Prince Harry). Except for metaphysics, she had every comfort of life within reach (T/N: exact term used was 衣来伸手饭来张口 fàn lái zhānɡ kǒu, yī lái shēn shǒu – Describes a person who is lazy and enjoys the fruits of other people’s labor). Her father, mother, and brothers all doted on her. Without any survival skills, in such a city, what else could she do other than fortune-telling and feng shui reading.

Yunyu sighed and planned to go to the library to make do for one day.

There was a national-level library near the university. The environment inside was very good, elegant and peaceful, and she had a library card. After finding a clean corner, she drank some spiritual spring water, and closed her eyes to meditate.

At the end of the day, she only ate a piece of bread and was very hungry.

Back in the dormitory, Song Jingjing had already returned, elated. It seemed that the interview was successful.

Seeing Yunyu coming back, Song Jingjing shared the day’s joy with her, and asked her how her interview went. Yunyu did not want to lie to her, and only said, “I haven’t gone to the interview today. I have other plans. I’ll tell you later. “

Song Jingjing succeeded in the interview and would report to the company the next day. She came back that day to pack her things. As she was packing up, she invited Yunyu, Zhu Jiajia, and Pang Shanshan from next door to go out to eat spicy crayfish. There was a food street near the school, and there were all kinds of food in it. Nearing summer, crayfish in China was the most popular. Whether it was in the bustling city or rural town, it was the most popular food for the people of the country in summer with various cooking methods.

麻小 Má xiǎo – Spicy Crayfish

(T/N: Looks so yummy! I wanna try it too!)

For that dinner, Song Jingjing naturally would not invite Ge Qing.

She and Ge Qing had reached the point of incompatibility. When they left the dormitory, Ge Qing was losing his temper in the dormitory. She did not know why but she was flustered the whole day and her body was cold and gloomy.

Pang Shanshan lived in the dormitory next door and had a good relationship with Yunyu and Song Jingjing. She was also from the imperial capital and her family’s conditions seem to be very good.

The four of them went to the food street and found a restaurant specializing in spicy crayfish, and the business was booming. They found a table outside the store and sat down. The four ordered a few pounds of spicy crayfish, some grilled oysters and a few stir-fried vegetables. As they waited for the food, the few people chatted. Pang Shanshan sighed and said, “I want to be an announcer, but my mother insists that I go to her company for an internship. She calls me every day. This is the major that I chose and initially they promised that they would allow me to do whatever I wanted and that everything was up to me. After graduation, they are now going back on their word. I don’t dare to go home, so I will hide in the dormitory for a while.”

Song Jingjing wailed, “Ah, I want to be a rice bug too (T/N: Rice bugs are bugs usually found in rice when it is not properly stored (or even sometimes when it is properly stored for some odd reason. Urgh! Hate em!) The bugs just eat the rice all day long and do nothing else. This is a slang used to show contempt for those adults who are not independent, motivated, have nothing to do all day, and only know how to live by their parents. But in this case, Jingjing meant that she too wants to be a nouveau riche and live off her parents).”

Yun Yu looked at her group of friends as they chatted and looked around them too. The food street was noisy and filled with people of various classes. It was a world away from the prosperous city she saw in the daytime and was full of life. Everything in that world made her feel very refreshed.

While looking around, Yunyu saw a woman in her forties looking around anxiously, sitting in a corner holding a white and tender child. The child was about one year old and was sleeping sweetly in the woman’s arms.

Yunyu frowned when she looked at the faces of the woman and the child (T/N: Yunyu was face reading).
