They ate leek buns, gently simmered thick fragrant rice porridge and the salted duck eggs for breakfast. The duck eggs were boiled and cut into pieces, and the egg yolks had an enticing oily sheen. Both Grandma Yun and Mother Yun were great cooks. Grandma Yun was the best at making buns. The flavors of the vegetarian filling buns were very good and Yunyu thoroughly enjoyed them. She ate two buns, a bowl of millet porridge and a salted duck egg. After eating, Yunyu cleared away the table and followed Grandma Yun out to water the vegetable garden.

Leek and egg buns (韭菜鸡蛋馅的包子); Plain porridge (白粥); Millet porridge (小米粥); Salted duck eggs (咸鸭蛋)

(T/N: The author used 白粥 in the previous chapter and 小米粥 when Yunyu was eating so I’ve included both for y’all to see)

The Yun Family’s vegetable garden was just outside the yard. It was not very big, just about half a mu (T/N: 1 mu = 0.165 acre) of land. There were some seasonal vegetables grown. The family had never bought vegetables outside, only some pork and beef.

Grandma Yun used well water to water the vegetable field. This was the well that Yunyu added spiritual spring water to the day before so it was alright to casually water the vegetable field with it.

It was eight o’clock after they were done watering. Grandma Yun then led Yunyu to go around their family’s fields.

The Yun family had eight acres of dry land and seven acres of paddy fields. When the land was divided in the earlier days, the seven acres of paddy fields that were distributed were all connected, and the eight acres of dry land were also next to each other. The paddy fields were all planted with rice. Half of the dry land was planted with wheat, while the remaining half was planted with sesame, soybeans, corn and peanuts. The harvest period for wheat was about this time. Grandma Yun was a little anxious as hiring people to harvest the fields cost 200 yuan per mu. She was reluctant. The wheat would not sell for much but it would cost thousands of yuan to harvest each mu of land. Her daughter-in-law was sick and was bedridden and she was also reluctant to let her granddaughter do this kind of work. Hence, she thought of tricking her granddaughter back to the imperial capital after two days, and she later slowly harvest the wheat on her own.

Yunyu did not know of her plans. She followed Grandma Yun to the fields to help do some weeding. When she arrived at the wheat field, Yunyu couldn’t help but ask, “Grandma, are these wheat about to be harvested?” The fields were a golden yellow. Yunyu did not know much about farm life but had some vague knowledge about it.

“It’s not urgent. You don’t have to worry about it. I’ll ask someone to harvest it in two days.” Grandma Yun did not want her granddaughter to worry about this.

After finishing hoeing the weeds in the field, Grandma Yun said, “Xiao Yu’er, I’m going to buy some meat and bones in the town first. You should go back earlier. I’ll leave all my things here. Remember to help Grandma bring them back later when you head home.”

Yunyu looked at the fields at home and fell into deep thought. It took a long time for her to return to her senses and respond.

This field was close to the mountain, and there were no farmers nearby. It was also the field that belonged to their family. She took the small bucket left by Grandma Yun to the small pond nearby to fetch some water. After adding some spiritual spring water, she watered the fields. It was merely watering the fields so her speed was quite fast. By noon, several acres of dry land that belong to her family had been watered with spiritual spring water.

After lunch, she went to take a look at the two-acre peach orchard left by Eldest Grandfather. The peach trees did not need much attention, only needing some pruning in autumn and winter. These were ordinary peaches with soft and juicy flesh. Her family loved peaches. Currently, the branches hung only fruitful green peaches. These were not early-ripening products, and it would take a month or two to mature. There was an acre of watermelon field next to them, which was also the land left by Eldest Grandfather. The watermelons were not early-ripening fruits either and could only be eaten after a month or two. Now, they were only little melon eggs.

Yunyu sprinkled spiritual spring water on both the peach forest and the watermelon fields.

She actually had the thought to stay at home and not go to the imperial capital to find a job.

There were not many people who believed in metaphysics and she was not a famous master. Hence, she would not make much money for fortune-telling. She could not rely on helping people look at Feng Shui too as there were few demands and she had to wait for people to seek her out. What their family lacked most now was money. Besides metaphysics, the only thing she had left was her spiritual spring. She can make use of the spiritual spring to make a fortune. The taste of food nourished by spiritual energy was incomparable to ordinary food and there were also health advantages when consuming them. Hence, there was no need to worry about sales. She decided to test it out at home first.

Yunyu did not plan on telling her family about this for the time being for fear that they would not be able to bear it. After all, she graduated from a prestigious school. Why would she stay at home to farm now?

After dinner, Yunyu took a bucket of well water and poured some into a few pots of wilting flowers in the corner. The remaining half was poured onto the roots of the jujube trees in the yard.

Jubebe tree and fruits (枣树)

[T/N: The tree is a fake tree (the tree can grow bigger like normal fruit trees) but I thought it was more decent looking than all the real trees on google. So, for those who have always wondered what on earth jubebe was but could not be bothered to search it up (ahem like me), here you go]

After she massaged Mother Yun’s left leg with some spring water, she went to bed and fell asleep immediately. She did not hear the phone ring a few times as she was really tired that day.

The next morning, Yunyu woke up very early. She drank some spiritual spring water and sat on the bed to cultivate.

Gradually getting used to the spiritual spring water, she can now drink it directly without wasting the slightest bit of spiritual energy of the spiritual spring.

Two hours later, she opened her eyes. Her body that was sore from work yesterday was also relieved.

Yunyu put on her clothes, took out her phone and glanced at it. She found that there were two missed calls from Song Jingjing. She checked the time and saw that it was only seven o’clock. Jinjing probably had not woken up yet. Just as she put down the phone, she heard Grandma Yun talking to herself outside, “Why am I so energetic after a night’s rest? I seem to be much more energetic than before.”

Grandma Yun did not know if she was imagining things, but when she went to the vegetable garden outside to pick some vegetables, she found that the leeks that she cut yesterday seemed to have grown a few inches and the small cabbage that had just sprouted two days ago had also grown taller. The tomatoes had turned a lot red, and the shallots were tender…

Grandma Yun felt that the vegetables in this vegetable garden had started to grow like crazy.

For breakfast, Grandma Yun mixed tomatoes with sugar. These tomatoes were completely ripe. When one cut into it, you could smell the fresh and sweet tomato flavor. Grandma Yun also steamed some green eggplant, boiled a pot of spring onion egg noodles, and cooked rice. The whole house was full of a delicious aroma. When eating, Yunyu first tasted a piece of tomato. The sugar melted into the flesh of the tomato, and the flesh was soft, sweet and juicy.

Tomato with sugar (糖凉拌番茄), Steamed green eggplants (蒸青茄子), Egg noodles with spring onions (小葱鸡蛋面), Rice (饭)

[T/N: Apparently tomato with sugar is an actual thing. Who knew! Side note, the noodles look AMAZING! So springy!]

Grandma Yun took a bite and was stunned, “This tomato tastes so good.” She had never eaten something so delicious. It had an even more intense flavor than when she had eaten it as a child. The steamed eggplant was even more flavourful. It was as if the eggplant could melt in your mouth. It was simply too delectable.

And the pot of spring onion egg noodles, “This spring onion tastes so good…”

Grandma Yun felt that the breakfast she had today was probably the best tasting breakfast she had ever eaten in her life.

When Yunyu went to Mother Yun’s room to get the empty dishes and chopsticks, Mother Yun was still saying, “Today’s breakfast tastes so good.”

Spiritual energy was the foundation of everything, and the food produced by spiritual energy was incomparable.

The vegetables in the vegetable garden were growing like crazy. Grandma Yun felt that she could not eat them all, and that it was a waste. She planned to get some to sell in the town. There was also a small vegetable market in their village, but the business was not very good. There were a lot of people in town but not many grew vegetables. Hence the sale of vegetables was good.

Grandma Yun picked some tomatoes, green eggplants, leeks, shallots, and filled a big basket.

Yunyu had nothing to do, so she followed Grandma Yun to the town. It took 20 minutes by bus to arrive. Yunyu helped Grandma Yun to carry the vegetable basket to the entrance of the market.

Hexian Town had a population of about 400,000 to 500,000 people. It was a relatively large town. There were several large vegetable markets, various entertainment venues, shopping malls, and department stores. The several main streets, and the real estate industry in town was also doing well. Many people from the surrounding villages bought houses in town.

Recently, housing prices in various cities had been soaring. The subway leading to Hecian Town in the urban area has almost been completed. Hence, the housing prices in town have risen to 4000 or 5000 thousand per square meter.
