Chapter 4

Yunyu’s phone model was a smart phone from a few years back. Her sister and mother worked hard to support her, enabling her pursuit in further education and she also had a younger brother who was a sophomore in high school. Hence, they were usually quite thrifty.

The caller ID on the mobile phone showed that it was a landline call. She hesitated before picking up. A male voice came through, “Is this classmate Yunyu? Hello, I am Police Officer Chen whom you met at the police station yesterday. Thank you for your contribution yesterday. Anyways, here’s the situation. The parents of the child who you saved once offered a reward to whoever that can give any clues about the child’s whereabouts. It is a monetary reward of 100,000 yuan. Now, they have sent the money to the police station. I hope that you can come to the police station to take the money away. The parents of the child would also like to thank you in person.”

Yesterday Yunyu left after giving her statement. Han Hui and He Fan were so shocked by the babysitter’s incident that they did not thank her much.

It was only after they had handled the situation that they suddenly thought of it.

Yunyu was very poor, and she needed the money. So, she naturally agreed to go to the police station.

An hour later, she arrived at the police station. Both Han Hui and He Fan were there. The two thanked her profusely and transferred the reward money directly into her card. They offered to treat her to a meal but Yunyu declined saying she still had matters to attend to after. Yunyu then asked about yesterday’s situation. Remembering the incident, Han Hui’s eyes were red when talking about it.

“Yesterday the police helped to check Xu Qiuhua’s background and found that she had done something similar when she was in another housekeeping company. She had done many shady things and had also ‘lost’ another child before. The child was put in the exact same situation as our Xiaobao (T/N: little treasure – term of endearment used by parents to address their children; similar to daring, baby, or dear). Officer Chen interrogated the two human traffickers and they admitted to knowing Xu Qiuhua and the others had known each other. The child from the last family was also abducted through them.”

He Fan hugged his child. The child was only ten months old. He was confused and a little frightened, slumping pitifully on his father’s shoulder.

“How could such a nanny be hired by a housekeeping company?” Han Hui’s body was shaking. “At the beginning, Xu Qiuhua asked to borrow 100,000 yuan, saying that her son was going to get married and needed the money urgently. At that time, she had only come to our house for two months, hence I did not agree. Her grudge may have been the reason why she decided to kidnap our family’s Xiaobao.”

Just as he was talking, an upright looking policeman who looked to be in his thirties came over. This was Police Officer Chen who gave Yunyu a call.

“This is the second time Xu Qiuhua has sold a child in this manner. The cause of it should be due to her resentment towards Mr. He’s family for not willing to lend her money. We called and asked about the situation in the family of the other child who was kidnapped. It was found that the family was very wealthy. Xu Qiuhua also asked to borrow 100,000 yuan and they didn’t give it to her. After two months, the child was lost. This method is the same as that of your family. The child was also abducted by the same two traffickers and they have both confessed. This happened three to four years ago. At that time, we did not know that the situation was related to human traffickers hence, the case was prosecuted under civil law. Xu Qiuhua also did not have the money to compensate. The family who lost the child has been frantically looking for the child for the past few years.”

Yunyu’s eyes were a little bit sore. Damn these people.

Officer Chen continued, “We have already contacted the child’s parents. They are not from the imperial capital and are on their way. Our police station has now started to follow up on this case. These two traffickers have abducted many children over the years and we will follow the vine to find out everything. Later, we will still need your help to make a statement.”

Han Hui wiped her tears, “Okay. Police Officer Chen can just call us directly. Now, we will no longer dare take the risk of leaving our child with a nanny. I am planning on resigning to stay back and take care of our child.”

Yunyu saw Xiaobao‘s listless expression and knew that the child was frightened. She asked Officer Chen for a piece of white paper and some water. Everyone did not know what she was going to do. Yunyu extended her index finger to wet her finger using the water in the transparent glass, and then concentrated on drawing something on the white paper. The water left behind faint lines on the white paper. Her movements were quick. Don’t know if it was an illusion but the people on site actually thought that they saw a faint golden light flashing on the paper when Yunyu finished the last stroke.

Yunyu folded the drawn talisman and handed it to Han Hui with a pale face, “I think the child is a little frightened. This is a protective talisman. Just put it in the child’s pocket and he won’t cry at night.”

Protective Talisman

(T/N: 平安符 píng ān fú – It is said that this talisman can be used to ensure the safety of one’s body and spirit)

The police onlookers touched their noses. They did not expect this little girl to draw a talisman, and they did not know whether to stop this kind of feudal superstition.

This little girl was also courageous. She dared to promote feudal superstition in the police station.

Yunyu felt that since she had collected 100,000 yuan, she had to do something in return. She now had no cultivation base, but there is the spiritual spring.  The spiritual springIt can still be used to draw talismans.

Asking for a glass of water was just a cover up. She needed to use it as a pretense when using the water from the spiritual spring.

The path of metaphysics was not easy. In her last life, she took this path because of the spiritual spring, and gradually fell in love with it.

This road was also very difficult. She had to learn many things and work very hard. She studied the four books, five classics and six arts (T/N: 四書五經 Sìshū Wǔjīng – the authoritative books of Confucianism in China; 六藝 liù yì – Rites (禮), Music (樂), Archery (射), Chariotry (御), Calligraphy (書) and Mathematics (數)), and read many books, such as numerology, Yin Yang and Five Elements, Qi Men Dun Jia and so on. She also practiced hard to become familiar with the human body’s meridian, learn various feng shui, and draw seal paintings. The fruit of her labor is evident. A prime example is her ability to draw talismans. There are no shortcuts to drawing this talisman. The reason why she could easily draw them was because of the countless number of times she had practiced. Though she could advance quickly with the help of the spiritual spring, she herself understood the amount of effort she had to put in to be able to do so.

She had not yet cultivated her body hence, her body could not store any spiritual energy.

Whether it was fortune-telling, feng shui, numerology, healing, divination, drawing talismans, all of these require spiritual support. Though spiritual energy was not very necessary for simple divination, it is crucial for calculating deeper and more accurate divinations. .

For people dabbling in metaphysics, as long as they do no evil, do not reveal too many of the universe’s secrets, and carry out more good deeds, the five disadvantages and three shortcomings are nothing to fear. (T/N: 五弊三缺 wǔ bì sān quē –  the five disadvantages are widower, widowed, orphaned, childless, and disabled; the three deficiencies are wealth, life, and blessings. Fortune-telling is seen as spying on the secrets of heaven. It is believed that due to casualty (which states that when there is a cause, there must be an effect), because fortune tellers know the universe’s secrets, they will be punished by God (ie they become widowed/ will never be wealthy/ have a short life etc.)) The so-called secrets that cannot be leaked often refer to those that had big cause and effects such as natural disasters and man-made disasters in a country. If too much is revealed, there will be an effect.

To put it bluntly, she still liked the leisurely life of earning a little money by helping people tell their fortunes and looking at Feng Shui.

But if she had to use metaphysics to save a country, she was unwilling. Fortunately, the current era was a good one. There were no wars or no famine, and only some natural and man-made disasters. All walks of life are also willing to extend a helping hand to those in need.

When she was a princess in her last life, she also helped read people’s fortune and feng shui. However, in her last life, because she was a princess, she did not have to worry about money. The food and clothing she had were the finest and there were also maids who served and guards for protection. She did not have any hardships. And because she had the spiritual spring, she was nurtured tender and delicate, and did not know the sufferings of the world.

She was not an arrogant master, just a princess loved by her family.

But in this life, she would have a different way of living compared to her previous life.

Han Hui remembered that when Xiaobao went home, he cried all night last night. She was a woman of the new era and did not quite believe in this. But thinking that Xiaobao was rescued by this classmate Yun, she stuffed this weird peace talisman into Xiaobao‘s pocket. she then asked, “Student Yun, can talismans be drawn using white paper and water?”

Yunyu said, “The carrier is not important, but yellow cinnabar paper is better.” When the carrier of the talisman is different, the effectiveness and length of use will also differ.

However, the protective talisman she gave was enough to cure the child’s fright.

As the matter was almost resolved, Yunyu decided to go to the library.

As usual, she found a corner to drink some spiritual spring water to cultivate her body. She did not return to the dormitory until dark.

Ge Qing was in the dormitory and Zhu Jiajia had not yet returned. Ge Qing had just finished taking a bath. She had a pale face and kept on dozing off. She had been having nightmares for two consecutive days, and she was in poor spirits.

Yunyu took the clothes directly to take a bath. She did not bother looking at Ge Qing.

After Yunyu showered, Pang Shanshan, who was from the next dorm, came over to invite her to dinner. She said that she had a successful interview today and had rented a room near her work place. She will be moving out of the dormitory tomorrow and would like to invite Yunyu to dinner at night. Yunyu naturally agreed. Throughout her four years of university, she had the best relationship with Song Jingjing and Pang Shanshan. Furthermore, they have helped the original body innumerable times.

During the meal, Yunyu mentioned the 100,000 yuan issue. After all, yesterday, Shanshan and Jingjing had both helped.

Pang Shanshan smiled and said, “The credit for this matter should be all yours. You found the child and subdued the traffickers. You don’t need to give us the money. Jing Jing would not take it either. Keep this money well. You will be graduating soon and will need to rent a house as you look for a job. Money is needed everywhere.”

As for Zhu Jiajia, because she hid behind and made no effort to contribute during the whole process, Yunyu did plan to offer her a single cent.

Yunyu did not plan on finding a job in the mass media industry. As she could not talk about it, she could only change the topic.

After the two had dinner, Shanshan invited Yunyu to watch a movie. It was a science fiction movie that had a huge spaceship and showed the depth and beauty of outer space. Yunyu kept her eyes wide open the whole time. Though she knew of these from the original Yunyu’s memory, it still blew her mind.

Having watched movies and ate desserts, she experienced the little happiness of girls in this era.

Yunyu returned to the dormitory at eleven o’clock. Everyone had already fallen asleep. She washed her face with some warm water from the spiritual spring and wiped her body. She lay on the bed, fumbled with her phone, and donated half of the daytime bounty of 100,000 to a reliable charity.

The next day, she helped Shanshan move things and went to the library in the afternoon.

She really did not have any other place to go. These days it was hot, the air conditioner was on in the library, and the environment was pleasant. There were no interruptions in her cultivation, and she was really comfortable.

Two days later, Zhu Jiajia also found a job and moved out, leaving her and Ge Qing alone.

She went to the library to drink some spiritual spring water to meditate during the day, and went to sleep in the dormitory at night.

By the end of May, she was a little anxious. What should she do if she can’t find a job? The senior’s dormitories will be locked in two or three days. Yunyu wanted to cry in sorrow.

But there was also something to be happy about. She was finally able to see the qi between heaven and earth after half a month of cultivation. She figured that it was due to the spiritual spring, which was the case in her previous life. In this life, the spiritual spring  followed her here, and also with this body. With the fit, she could see these qi.

The first floor of the female dormitory for seniors was almost empty. Yunyu was worried.

That night, she came back from the library and planned to head back to the dormitory. Just as she was walking within the school’s compound, she bumped into a beautifully dressed girl on campus. She was dumbfounded when she saw this girl. She heard the smile in the girl’s voice as she spoke, “Yunyu, why are you still in the imperial capital? Something happened to your mother. Aren’t you going home to see her?”
